Aarogya Setu app, which has been praised by World Bank and WHO, will now also allow people to register for vaccination in India, reported India Today.
The Aarogya Setu app, which has been used by the government to track Covid positive people and push health updates related to COVID-19, was launched in April 2020 and has been downloaded millions of times.
In an interview with India Today, Dr Ram Sewak Sharma, the chairman of Empowered Group on Technology and Data Management to combat Covid-19 and member of National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration of Covid-19, said, “Yes, people will be able to register for vaccination through the Aarogya Setu app. We will also help the app generate a post-vaccination certificate.”
The Aarogya Setu app will be used to register people for vaccination other than the 3-crore frontliners. The frontliners, who are the first ones to receive the covid-19 vaccine, had been pre-registered on the Co-WIN app, which the government has introduced for smooth vaccine rollout.
Dr Ram Sewak said that the Aarogya Setu app has been downloaded by over 16-crore people already. The feature to register for the vaccine will be launched in the app once the 3 crores frontliners have been vaccinated.
“The current system of data population that we have will not work beyond the 3 crore captive audience. For them, we need a citizen-centric architecture. This is where people will be called when they register. They will have options to choose when they want to be vaccinated, at what time they want to be vaccinated and where. We will need to open multiple entry points of self-registration,” Dr Ram Sewak Sharma said.
“Aarogya Setu is not the only method, registration through telephone numbers, IVRS system will also be looked at. We will also help them generate certificates post-vaccination. We need multiple channels for people who don’t have smartphones as well,” he added.
Dr Sewak further goes on to add that around 80 per cent of people, who have been vaccinated, have been authenticated via Aadhar card for better trackability.
“We have previous experience as well. We have also done the same for Aadhar card enrolments. From the beginning, data will be safe and not have any problem. There are other ways to register, but Aadhar card is going to be a big prospect,” Dr Shatma said.
The Co-WIN app, yet to be officially launched, is a government app that will allow you to register to get vaccine doses. The app, as of now, has the data of frontline workers who are the first ones to get the vaccine.
Once live, you can use the three registration options on the app including self-registration, individual registration, and bulk upload.
Once registered, you would be called to the vaccination camp to get the vaccine dose and the app will also provide an e-certificate, confirming you have been vaccinated. The app will also notify you to get the MANDATORY second dose of the vaccine 28 days apart.
