According to a UN spokesperson UNICEF Goodwill Priyanka Chopra has the right to speak on issues concerning her. It was seen that she cheered the Indian Armed Forces by tweeting it for which she had been under intense criticism. The spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres name Stephane Dujarric said in a briefing that when the personal capacity is spoken by the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, they retain the right to speak about issues which seem to be concerning them. This was said when a question about Priyanka Chopra was asked. He added that it does not necessarily reflect UNICEF when it comes to their personal views or actions.

Stephane Dujarric continued that being prominent individuals, the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors have agreed to volunteer their time generously in order to promote children’s rights. A barrage of criticism was seen against Chopra ever since she tweeted on February 26. It can be mentioned that she tweeted “Jai Hind #IndianArmedForces” where she also inserted emojis of Namaste and Indian Flag. It was after India rescinded the special status of Kashmir that Pakistan has intensified criticism of her.

Shireen Mazari, Pakistan’s Human Rights Minister wrote to Henrietta Fore, the UNICEF Executive Director where she demanded that Priyanka Chopra should be removed as a Goodwill Ambassador.  The reason behind this was for accusing her of “support and jingoism” for the Indian Armed Forces. It was said that Chopra showed support for war and nuclear war. But it should be mentioned that Chopra did not mention anything in tweet aftermath of the carbon attack by Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed where more than 40 Central Reserve Police personnel and the Indian Air Force counterstrike.

Mazari also said that it would become a mockery of the very idea of a Goodwill Ambassador for Peace unless Chopra is removed immediately, In a recent incident in Beautycon event in Los Angeles a Pakistani woman heckled Chopra over the tweet. Many citizens and celebrities have supported Chopra on social media and in statements. Some of them include Kangana Ranaut, Ayushmann Khurrana, Anupria Goenka and so on.
