Pakistan ended their winless run against India in World Cup matches in spectacular fashion on Sunday, winning the opening fixture of the 2021 T20 World Cup by 10 wickets. Captain Babar Azam and opening partner Mohammad Rizwan helped Pakistan chase down a target of 152 without losing a wicket after the bowlers led by Shaheen Afridi limited India to 151/7.

Both Indian and Pakistani former players congratulated Babar Azam’s men. Former Pakistan captain and the country’s Prime Minister Imran Khan were among those that congratulated the team.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar called out veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh towards the end of the match. Harbhajan had said on Salaam Cricket that “it doesn’t look Pakistan can compete with India”.

Shoaib later posted a video on Twitter. “Finally Pakistan have won. I will not say anything bad about India, well done you have done well. But not well enough to beat the mighty Babar Azam and Rizwan. Wish you best of luck Pakistan,” he said.

Harbhajan also commended Pakistan for their performance and said India will bounce back.

Former India captain Mohammed Azharuddin said that Pakistan deserve credit where it’s due.

Both India and Pakistan face New Zealand in their next match. While Pakistan face New Zealand on Tuesday, India’s next match is on Sunday.
